DIY Deck Installation Tips
Below is a brief introduction to DIY deck installation. See Installation & Care for a more in-depth guide.
- When fixing your deck boards, leave 3mm - 5mm gaps between one board and the next. This is important as the deck boards will naturally expand and shrink over time.
- Clip the first board into place using a stainless steel starter clip.
- Once the first board is in place, insert fasteners into the groove of the board's outer edge (one at each joist). Secure using a screwdriver on the lowest speed setting.
- Slide the next board onto the fastener and tap into place using a rubber mallet.
- Install the last board using another starter clip.
- To install decking trim, pre-drill the edging strip 50mm from the top and bottom at a maximum of 300mm. Secure using evenly-spaced screws.
